What's a month? Insurance AGAIN
Feb. 23rd, 2009 10:36 pmOkay. So my dental policy is supposed to include a prophylactic exam every 6 months. I had one on July 13, 2008. I had the next on January 11, 2009. The claim has been denied because they claim it's TWO DAYS EARLY.
I value my dentist highly. She does beautiful work and she works on Sundays. She came in once on a Tuesday because I needed her. What more could I possibly want? Oh, yeah - for the insurance company to PAY per the contract. The dental office is willing to write this off and flag my account so it doesn't happen again. They shouldn't have to.
There was 182 days or 26 weeks exactly between exams. So in insurance-speak, is a month 30 days? Or does it go by date of the month? Or what about counting the weeks?
I'm talking about Premier Access Dental here. I know that having a choice of dental plans is really rare, but if you can, avoid them. This isn't the first problem I've had. The customer service folks are rude and will not answer questions. Washington Dental and Delta Dental both did a better job with the paper work.
So now, it's WAR.
The plan
1. File the appeal.
2. Wait 45 days for response.
3. Look, Ma! A new hobby! Amuse myself posting reviews of Premier Access on every consumer site I can find.
4. File complaint with state insurance commission on day 46.
5. Pick the brains of the attorneys I work with about the possibility of a bad faith suit.
I really, really, really hate insurance companies. There's a whole lot of reasons I don't work for one any more.
Skirmish updates updates to follow.
