Okaaaaay, boys and girls,

avikar to Hearst Castle to gawp at the rich display of a vanished packrat, err, tycoon. The interiors were Medieval Catholic art, presented at it's most ornate and non-stop. I liked the exteriors and I loved the tile work. And yes, Prince Charming may give me either of the pools.
We went north on Hwy 1 from Hearst Castle to Gorda. I realized that I was very low on gas just a little too late for it to be worth turning around. (Or so I thought at the time.) At Gorda I was thrilled to find the one and only gas station's single island promising "Full Serve." Happy Day - probably the last full service station in California out in the middle of nowhere. Uh hunh. Petty detail - $3.60 per gallon for regular. Petty detail not noticed until the tank was full.
